RPDEV Holds 8th FVR-RPDEV Lecture


RPDEV, in cooperation with the Roberto F. De Ocampo (RFO) Center for Public Finance and Regional Economic Cooperation, held on July 18th, 2007 the 8th FVR-RPDEV Lecture as part of RPDEV's continuing lecture series program. 

The 8th FVR-RPDEV Lecture is entitled "10 Years After The Asian Financial Crisis:  Where Are We Now?".  How did we survive the 1997 Asian financial crisis?  Why have we lost our edge over our Asian neighbors since our emergence from the crisis?  What is being done by both the private sector and government to regain the ground we lost due to the crisis?  These are some of the questions addressed during the Lecture.

The lecture was opened by Former President Fidel V. Ramos. Panelists during the plenary discussion included Dr. Cielito F. Habito, Former Director General, National Economic Development Authority (NEDA); Mr. David L. Balangue, Chairman & Managing Partner, SGV & Co.; Mr. Mark Watkinson, President & Chief Executive Officer, HSBC Philippine, Dr. Claudio Loser, Formerly Director of the Western Hemisphere Department International Monetary Fund. The lecture was closed by the Honorable Amando M. Tetangco, Jr., Governor of the Central Bank of the Philippines with a summation of government actions.
